Q. CAN WOODWORM FLY?

A. Yes, but they rarely bother. Many dead woodworm bodies have completely closed wing cases, showing that they have never flown. Once they have flown they cannot completely close the wing cases and you can see the ends of the wings protruding.

Q. WHERE DO WOODWORM FLY?

A. As a woodland creature they fly or walk around on dead and decaying wood looking for a mate. The Adult only has about 3 weeks to live, so they do not usually move far.

Q. WHY MIGHT WOODWORM BE FOUND ON WINDOW CILLS?
A. Because they tend to move towards the light. In some cases they have emerged from the back of old furniture situated against the wall..
Q. CAN THE ADULT WOODWORM EAT MY FURNITURE OR FLOORBOARDS?

A. No, it does not eat or tunnel. It's only task is to mate and lay eggs.

Q. CAN I SEE WOODWORM WHEN THEY ARE FLYING?

A. It's possible, but unlikely. They are only about 3mm to 5mm long, dark brown and hard to spot in flight. However, if they gather together on a white painted window cill you might spot one flying.
