NON-TOXIC CHEMICAL WOODWORM TREATMENTS CANNOT BE USED FOR:
- Anything damp - use a calibrated
Moisture Meter to check - moisture readings (WME) must not be above
6% on a Timber Scale for Books, Art and Antiques.
- Any product likely to be
affected by high or low temperatures - expansion and contraction can
affect some wooden items and art
- Anything living - pet
INERT GAS TREATMENT
OF WOODWORM AND OTHER INSECTS
Gas concentration must
be measured at the centre of the woodworm affected object and held for:
1. Common furniture beetle
- 3 weeks
2. Death watch Beetle - 3
weeks
Typical Inert Gas Kit
contains - Digital Gas Recorder with Memory, Sensors to insert into
the object, Inert Gas Canister. You can hire nitrogen, helium or carbon
dioxide cylinders locally.
LOW
TEMPERATURE WOODWORM AND INSECT TREATMENT
Temperature must be measured
at the centre of the woodworm affected object and held for:
1. Common furniture beetle
- minus 30 degrees Centigrade for 3 days, or minus 18 degrees Centigrade
for 2 weeks.
2. Death watch Beetle - minus
30 degrees Centigrade for 3 days, or minus 18 degrees Centigrade for
2 weeks.
3. Bed Bugs - 4 days at minus
18 degrees Centigrade
Typical Low Temperature Kit
contains - Digital Thermometer with Memory, Sensors to insert into the
object, Freeze Spray, Refrigeration Unit (hired).
HIGH TEMPERATURE
TREATMENT OF WOODWORM AND OTHER INSECTS
Temperature must be measured
at the centre of the object and held for the specified period.
1. Common furniture beetle
- 8 hours at 52 degrees Centigrade
2. Death Watch Beetle - 8
hours at 52 degrees Centigrade
3. Biscuit Beetle - 1 hour
at 62 degrees Centigrade
4. Carpet Beetle - 1 hour
at 62 degrees Centigrade
5. Wool Moth - 1 hour at
62 degrees Centigrade
6. Bed Bugs - 1 hour at 62
degrees Centigrade
High Temperature Kit contains
- Digital Thermometer with Memory, Sensors to insert into the object,
Thermostatic Heating Pads.
